Colossus aka The Forbin Project

Yes. it was first book of a trilogy . I read the book one and thought it quite good.(y)

It was made into a very good film staring Eric Braden in 1970.:)

I watched the movie and loved it as a child. Never read the book, though.

They could easily do reboot of this one.

Has anyone else read this. I read this back in 1969 long before War Games came out and Terminator was even born.

One of the first in cautionary tales of man versus computer.

It is finally in e-book and Amazon is giving it away today.

I have read the entire trilogy twice and I reckon it's extremely good. The one fault I have to make with it is the evident chronological inconsistency between volume one (which seems set in the late twentieth or early twenty-first century) and volumes two and three which to me seem set about a hundred years later - although the same main character appears in each. Anyhow, despite that, I strongly recommend the books. The reversals of fortune, the plot-twists, are fascinating; the way the author has worked out the implications of rule by computer, and explores their dramatic potential, is impressive. The third volume, Colossus and the Crab, even has an interesting take on the theme of life on Mars.

As a computer protagonist , I rather liked Colossus.(y)
