As part of my writing research I'm looking for autobiographies by people whose ordinary lives have been challenged by serious injury or disability, and struggled against the physical and psychological effects of debilitating.

As an indicator, one of the books I've shortlisted is Still Me by Christopher Reece.

Any similar recommendations?

I know it's not a bio about but a character with... wouldn't the Vorkosigan books also prove insightful from a character driven PoV?

I haven't had a chance to read any of her books, but the movie "Temple Grandin" was an excellent portrayal of the mind of an autistic person. Temple Grandin is a prominent autism activist, having grown up with family support but none of the early childhood interventions common today. She has been successful in her career, and has helped pave the way for other autistic people in becoming adjusted and accepted in the world.

I found the movie's portrayal of Temple's thought process very accurate compared with what I have seen in my autistic son. It is refreshing to be able to see the world through an autistic person's eyes, instead of just hearing behaviors described.

Christy Brown's My Left Foot would seem a good one. Also, for mental anguish i wonder if F Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night is worth looking at? I think Simon Weston the Falklands hero wrote an autobiography which might be useful?
