Deadly Alien life form,blockaded on Planet manages to escape to Earth, Becomes Symbiote with Mankind

Alien lifeform (something like the blob) deadly to all races ,so dangerous that it is blockaded on a planet. Somehow a ship lands and what is left of the alien escapes to Earth and crashes in the ocean, I think. Aliens send out a ship to try and find it so they can trap it again. Alien comes in contact with a human, turns out it had just been looking for a partner/host one compatible with it. The race of man is and it starts to spread and mankind improves as it links mankind together.

One of the Flinx series of books ("Bloodhype" by Alan Dean Foster) includes the discovery of a blob... but it is not out to help mankind. And the the book "The Voyage of the Space Beagle" (by A E van Vogt) I believe there was an alien creature, but not a blob and also not kind to man.

Thanks for the try , I know both of those and yes its not them it is amazing the things you can remember and annoying the things you want to and cannot. I can remember chunks of the story but not a chance on the title ARGHHH!

It was a Novel , read sometime between mid 70's to mid 80's as for cover art I cannot remember anything about that at all,sorry.

I am pretty sure it is not one of he's works, Harry Harrison is one of my favourite authors and nothing springs to mind. I can remember chunks of the novel but the author or title . I know this creature in search for its "partner" had laid waste to planet after planet , whatever the Galactic society was it was totally terrified of it as they had no way to harm it . The only way they had to stop it was blockade a whole planet/system and keep it under watch and strict "shoot on sight" quarantine.
