Looking for a book series

I am new, but I am looking for a book series about a boy who traveled the universe looking for the keys to unlock earth that had been sent to a cowboys/indians period by a super computer that was supposed to prevent the population of earth from destroying itself. Basically he had to travel through space to find the keys with each being a difficult task, and bring them back to earth to unlock the NORAD mountain so they could turn off the computer and allow earth to progress once again.

Anyone that could help me with the name of this series would be outstanding. I would really appreciate it.

It might just be 'The rings of the Master' by Jack L. Chalker. (1. Lords of the Middle Dark (1986), 2. Pirates of the Thunder (1987), 3. Warriors of the Storm (1987), 4. Masks of the Martyrs (1988)). There are some details that don't line up, like the fact it's more of a team effort than an individual hero, but others that work.

I believe you are right! I read the series in 1993, so the memory is a bit foggy, but I remember that it was a very enjoyable series and wanted to once again give them a read. You are correct, it started as one and then quickly became a team effort to retrieve the five keys. Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond to my request, I very much appreciate it!
