Frances Hardinge Wins Costa Book of the Year

I've just picked it up for my writing for YA and kids course at uni (among a bunch of others, some very dubious ;) ) and am sort of looking forward to it. I don't generally enjoy the costa award winners, but hoping this one is different

I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to it. The Victorian girl scientist and science/religion theme sounds really intriguing.

I saw this on Saturday but resisted because I'm trying to read up and get rid of paperbacks. However, I do have her Twilight Robbery so it's heartening to hear that it's likely to be good.

I'm really thrilled that this book won the overall prize - I think it promises more of the same, a kind of tacit acknowledgement that YA, and maybe even fantasy, is something of worth.

I bought the book on Wednesday, it was the last copy in my local Waterstones! I'm beginning reading it on Monday, and very much looking forward to it.
