(Maybe this should go in the general book discussion forum? not sure.)
What characters have you found yourself somewhat surprised or confused not to hate, and why? (speculation, rationales, precise-and-certain-reasons are all welcome)
I'm not sure if this is a great idea, but I encourage any and all forms of sophism and lighthearted reasoning, to convince others that they should indeed hate said character/s. (but no heartfelt arguments)
If you want to encourage such scrutiny feel free to put something at the bottom of your post like CaM (come at me), or for the opposite, ISmP (I've said my piece).
I'll start:
I somewhat-unusually-don't-hate Joffrey Baratheon: he's widely reviled, extremely nasty, and devoid of redeeming or offsetting qualities, but he's also
1) a kid
2) -of the lannisters
3) -Cersei in particular.
and
4), he always seemed more pathetic than evil to me. Does evil need to be strong to be evil? Probably not in any literal sense, but I'm more inclined to think of it as corruption, weakness, or garden variety malice if a character doesn't generally have a great time, just love cackling or otherwise conspiciously and rudely get away with being a *******, or worse get away with enjoying it; in my mind "having to be Joffrey Baratheon" is a fairly good comeuppance, as they go.
