I think Laymon might need to come with a warning: My impression from how his fans have described his work indicates that Laymon deals a lot with sexual intimidation and rape. I've only read The Cellar, which mostly supports that, and which also indicates that he wasn't hung up on things like mood, atmosphere or characterization.
I think it's interesting, though I don't know what it means, that Laymon had greater success with the audience in England than that in the U.S. My impression is that he stayed in print there well after falling out of print here.
