How often are the challenges?

75-word challenge is every month. 300 word challenges are January, April, July, and October. The informal 100 word anonymous challenge is pretty much every month except those with a 300 word challenge.

I vote for adding another challenge to the list: 150 or 500. What am I to do if I can't get my challenge fix?

If the three hundred is every quarter, then a larger challenge would be less frequent as well, though, wouldn't it? Every four to six months I am assuming. That might get a bit messy with a longer voting period as well. Perhaps a straight six hundred word biannual would be cleaner??

There has been quite a bit of discussion in the past about having further Challenges, and the consensus in the Staff Room is that we don't wish to endanger the popularity of the current ones by bringing in more, leading to overload and Challenge fatigue. That was especially the case as we feared the number of participants for the 75 and 300 Worders were falling. (Number had indeed fallen from the heights, but it may be those heights were exceptional, and we'd merely returned to the normal range of entrants.)

I think keep things as they are, at least for now, and we can take stock when the 100s have been running a bit longer.

Makes sense. I abide by the ruling, your honour. But when--and if--any other challenge ever gets added to the list, let me run it the first time. Why I ask? Well, because I'm shameless that's why. I have buttery cake to butter up the deal as well.

There are also the occasional Sekrit Santa challenges, which are run in the workshop. The current thread is called Sekrit Seven, and now is the time to get into that. It calls for writing a longer story (1000+ words) to a particular member's prompt, assigned anonymously by the person running the affair. You might find those useful for taking the edge off. :D

I completely forgot about those. I always see them but I never care to knock.

ooh, ive got an idea... (and this would probably go over well with this particular crowd hehe--sci fi and fantasy that is) a monthly 200 worder based on the month's birthstone... I can practically see the drooling and far off stares of the fantasies in here

Eh? Chill. Whatever it is. I go to new forums all the time and get told off for getting things wrong and using the wrong threads and what not. It's very normal. (I'm sure if you liked a story, you got asked to take down the like - many of us have been, over time. It's not a biggy, at all.) and on this thread - it's come up before, having more challenges. Hang around and you'll see why it's not the preferred choice. As ever, when you're somewhere new, give it time.

Now breathe. /)

lol, that was only a small part of it and a joke. its the tone of messages ive received since being here. just hasnt been inviting. I dont mind being told i did something wrong, i get that. im an intuitive individual, and the tone of many messages ive received have been rather condescending and rude (minus robert mackay :) ) And chill is exactly the word i would recommend to certain moderators! its very off putting if your a new member and all your interactions are negative and so serious that i feel like it takes away from what this forum was intended to be... at least i assume was intended to be...
