I just attended BSFA Interview of Gareth L. Powell by Peter Hamilton
BSFA London Meeting 24th February 2016: Gareth L. Powell interviewed by Peter F. Hamilton
really interesting insights from an author (Gareth) who "has done it"
look out for follow ups on BSFA web-site
(maybe a stream or transcript)
Many thanks to BSFA!
I will update this post if/when something comes out
Items of note... stuff we can learn from him...
(1)
Gareth spent ~10 years honing his craft (and enjoying himself) writing Short Stories, before getting a Full Novel publishing deal
(2)
Gareth said "make sure you believe in your work and get right behind it"
(3)
He went on to say that he was always motivated to make his next work "even better" than his first
(4)
And from a writing tips perspective, he said that for any chapter he often writes the dialogue first and then adds description and actions
sorry for the paucity of these comments I am writing at pace... he said loads more but I was listening and not taking notes... I will relearn when I read the transcript
