03/23/2015 TCM will show Toshirô Mifune films from 6 Am to 6 PM, followed by Steve McQueen films on 03/24/2016. Both these films will be shown during those 2 days. As I recall, McQueen's character was not the same as Mifune's. The latter was a wannabe, while McQueen was a gunfighter. During the 23rd, Mifune does have a role as a modern cop; one who loses his hand gun, & is sweating bullets worrying about the possibility it might be used in a crime. In both SEVEN SAMURAI (10:30 AM est) & STRAY DOG (8AM EST), Takashi Shimura plays the senpai (senior) to Mifune's character; I think they really go well together. Shimura as the level-headed, calm, experienced guy, while Mifune plays the excitable young guy who needs to calm down. I never thought about comparing Mifune to McQueen before, but there are at least 3 crime dramas with Mifune on the 23rd, & Bullitt at 4pm on the 24th. It might be an interesting comparison.
