Don't get me wrong, I love The Beatles and I have no end of respect for George Martin's work. But when my partner told me that he'd died I said: "No he hasn't! I need to know how it ends!"

It took me a moment to click.

Here in the UK, it was announced that Sir George Martin had died, and even I didn't believe that every UK newspaper had misspelt 'Ser' as 'Sir'....

Ser... ser, ser...I don't get it Ursa. Ser. Must have missed something. Seriously, ser, serotonin, servo, ... no idea.

not sure if being sarcastic or not, but ser as in Ser Jaime Lannister, or Ser Bronn of the Blackwater

The ellipsis/full stop combination was... er... obviously not enough. I should have also added a .

The internet alarm that it might have been GRRM made me wonder at what point he became more famous than Sir George Martin the Beatles producer. Four years ago? Five?

Me neither. Then again (and like J above), I've not read George RR Martin's stuff (yet), so less reason perhaps for cardiac arrhythmia in my case. It would be difficult over here in the states, though; damn near every posting here prefixed it by calling him the 5th Beatle ...

* Wonders how many people thought he was a minor voice actor in A Bug's Life or Antz.... *

I think he is. So does my Dad and he's a retired English teacher who has always been extremely condescending about any fantasy other than Tolkien. He likes Gemmell now too.

He was, made a comeback, then checked out a second time, just to frighten fans of GRR Martin, whoever he was. )

I feel terrible, and apologise to Mr Martin's many fans, but when I read GRR Martin, instead of Georg R R Martin, My brain interpreted it as this guy:

Not really. First news I saw had Beatles in the title so I knew it was a different George Martin.
