After SuperHeroes , What Do You Think Will be the Next Big Thing in The Movies?

The only way they can salvage things is to start doing better stories that actually appeal to audiences.

I think they focused heavily on superhero movies because those appealed to audiences.

The best Marvel comic stories have either been done or are already in the pipeline.

By the time Avengers Secret Wars gets released, it’ll be twenty years since the first Iron Man film.
Twenty years isn’t that long for a film genre to remain popular - look at other genres for comparison:
Hollywood musicals had over half a century from the 1930s on.
Science fiction? Historical drama? Action hero franchises? Crime thrillers?

I’ll say it again - twenty years isn’t long at all for a popular film genre

Someone asked a good question--why did they do Madame Web instead of something more likely to be marketable as a name like Spider-Woman or Spider-Girl?

That character was such an obscure one-shot. And the name sounds like something out of the pulp era or suggests a bordello owner blackmailing customers.

IMO if they wanted to preserve superheroes as something interesting they should back off from the multiverse and series approach--focus on individual standalone films like a Hulk movie set on a desert army base where he is fighting the Abomination and other mutants or a Spider-man movie set in a ski resort where he has to tackle hijackers or something totally devoid of a super-villain fantasy.
They aren't really doing much with a character when they are thinking about how to tie in other ones.

Imagine if Dracula of Frankenstein was made with them already planning for Abbott and Costello to appear--because this is how they are doing these superhero sequels.

Since Scorsese was mentioned in this thread:

One response:

I think this is the type of thing they should.
Use the basic plot of a comic like this.

Stargate?

There might now still be enough in the tank for some kind of film Franchise . I will wager that had the tv series not happened , there would likely have been several Stargate bigs secret films by now,

I think it would be safe to say that Madam Web performed very badly at the box office.
