I've currently got a book search request up (boys adventure series, starts in the crusades). Had another try at finding the series (didn't) but did find a link for books set during the crusades, if anyone is interested.
Crusades

Hmmm... I've read Ivanhoe, and a kid's book that had the famous confrontation with the silk scarf and the anvil between Saladin and Richard the Lion-Heart, but that's it. As I've said elsewhere in this forum, my interest in historical fiction grinds to a halt right around the Norman Conquest.

Good list Montero, and I was surprised at how many books I have read on that list. Books that I would highly recommend from the list are;

Count Bohemond
Knight with Armour
Deus Lo Volt
A Booke of Days
The Stephen Lawhead trilogy.
All Things Are Light

The book you are looking for was it a series or a stand alone? If it was a one off does The Children's Crusade by Henry Treece ring any bells.
