XPO North an opportunity for those in the Highlands

I've been following this event, but considering they don't accept genre fiction in the adult category, I would feel odd submitting genre YA. Excluding sci-fi/fantasy from adult makes me think they'd be looking for contemporary YA more than sci-fi/fantasy YA.

Be sure to read the Submission Criteria, and ensure you're comfortable with the following very important terms:
  • All copyright holders for the work agree to allow XpoNorth to use a maximum of 20% of the material in advertising and publicity without compromising or giving away the story/plot
  • All copyright holders for the work agree to allow XpoNorth to present your material at any XpoNorth events held outwith the festival in June
  • By submitting to XpoNorth 2016 you are accepting that you must be available on either the 8th or 9th June 2016 in Inverness to complete the pitch in-person before a panel of publishers and agents, this will be a public event with an audience
  • By submitting to XpoNorth 2016 you are accepting that we will use your likeness and/or promotional images in our publicity online, in communications, and in recorded media

There's nothing inherently wrong or bad about them, but personally, even if they did want genre fic those terms aren't my cuppa tea.

I'm happy enough with the conditions - I've had far more from emergents than I've given so far. And at present all Mayhem is doing is languishing on my hard drive again so it might as well go.

I've found agents that don't accept sci-fi/fantasy for grown ups often do for YA.

Hey AnyaKimlim, how did it go? :) Did you find the Xpo worthwhile?

Yes it was fun. I didn't get chosen to pitch it but it means I can focus on Black's Nest. I got to meet up with Ben Galley and go over where I'm at with my book. A group of young YouTubers were wonderful with my daughter.

Next year I'm hoping to do more 1-2-1s etc

That sounds amazing! I hope to meet Ben Galley some time, I keep meaning to go to one of his workshops but missing the chance. :D I wish I could have been there, hopefully I'll get a chance next year.
