Having had a brief look through the workshop threads, I think I have come up with a new challenge/game for anyone to try.

The task is straightforward: Come up with a story about anything you like, where each sentence has to begin with the next letter in the alphabet. So for example, if the first sentence is "Ashley decided to..." Then the next sentence will be "Before she could..." or similar. For the letter X, as there are very few usable words for this letter you may choose to either make one up, or use any letter in its stead. Then after that Y and Z as normal.

I look forward to seeing your stories! Here's mine:

A war was nearing its end, which had raged for over forty thousand years. Believed to be extinct, the Sascren had launched an orbital bombardment on the planet Vearth. Countless lives were lost on the first day. Dozens of motherships tore a hole in the atmosphere, suffocating the planet's inhabitants. Entire legions poured forth from drop ships, their mechanical armor powering them onwards. Few could stand before them without being dealt a swift death. General Bolog, commander of the Vearth Defence Brigade equipped his plasma sword and charged into the heat of battle. His momentum building, he reminded his foes of his nickname - The Bull. Instantly enemies were lying behind him, their bodies broken and bent. Just as he neared the High Command ship, a roar shattered the air. Killing his speed Bolog turned to the source of the sound. Lunging towards the epicentre of the battlefield was a cavalry of Horg riders, led by the General's son, Berest. Mashing heads with their energy spears, the Vearth rallied in support and pressed home the advantage. No soldiers were spared a fight, everyone was needed on the front line. Orbital interceptors screamed overhead, the purple blaze of the VDB on their wings. Powering forwards once more, Bolog sliced through and endless tide of Sascren, his gaze still set on the command ship. Quick deaths were the most efficient means for him, as he daren't waste anymore time getting to that ship. Roaring from the back of his throat, it met his enhanced respirator, which amplified his sound waves and launched them towards his foes. Sascren before him fell to their knees, their eyes and ears disintegrating. The Emperor of the Sascren, Sarle, got up from his throne, picked up his gamma cannon and leapt from the ship. Unbelievable losses had been sustained by both sides, yet neither was ready to surrender. Vearth facing Sascren, a circle was formed as they initiated a duel. Weapons were removed, only hand to hand combat was allowed. Hurtling towards the Emperor, Bolog hoisted him into the air, shortly before smashing his body into the hard ground. Yells of triumph and anguish filled the air, as the war was finally ended. Zealous, the victors destroyed all traces of the Sascren, the war being recorded in the annals of history.

That was awesome! Well done! :)

Anyone could see that the spell hadn't worked. Bertram knew it hadn't worked as well. Could he pretend much longer? Dread overcame him, as he realized that the masters hadn't fallen for his ruse. Every fibre of his being shivered and he broke into a cold sweat. Fairies are supposed to know this stuff, he thought he had it mastered, but he'd been kidding himself. "Great," he muttered under his breath. Harold would be next and Bertram just knew he would hear all about how he should have studied harder and blah blah blah. Ingrid had warned him the instructors' notes would not suffice, practice was the key. "Just you watch," Bertram had retorted, angrily. "Keep telling yourself you'll pass Bertie; it's not gonna help you, you need to practice!" Like a fool, he hadn't listened, and now the evidence was clear, he'd spend another year at fifth level. Master Ploon was not a kind nor forgiving teacher and would be extra harsh on Bertram in the year to come. Now, he had to sit and watch the other students all perform their spells with perfect precision. Oh, if only he'd listened. Perhaps at least one of his other classmates would fail? Quentin was just as lazy as Bertram, it could be him. Rylee was next. She was a massive show off and did a fanciful twirl and a fluttering flourish to complete her spell. The masters loved her performance, all applauding loudly as she stepped off the stage to join her fellow classmates in the wings. Under other circumstances Bertram might have passed his fifth grade spell test. Very sadly, this was just not the same as junior training, you couldn't trick your way through, and until now, Bertram had been lucky enough to be able to trick his masters into thinking he knew what he was doing. Well, that time had passed, this spell was different. Xaxaplax was just too hard to fake. You couldn't just summon a portal, it had to be a portal to another world, and he'd been given Xaxaplax, he'd never even heard of it! Zander finished off the last spell of the graduation ceremony, and all but Bertram were asked to progress through to the grad hall; where everyone but him would enjoy their victory at the bubbling waters of the fountain of Sodissius, God of sugary goodness.
