(Found) Cannot for the life of me remember this series of books

Trying to find a series of books and might not have even been a series as I only remember 2 books. The first book starts off with a man on earth sailing around the globe solo but in the middle of the ocean get's kidnapped by slavers. Winds up on a planet where the slaves have to battle the inhabitants and if they survive get rewarded with gold and riches. Guy finds a Samurai sword and teams up with 2 women and a reptilian man. I think the inhabitants are brains in a jar type with mechanical spider carriers but not sure. It was a fun read and can't recall much about the second book except that the survivors go on a mission to a planet where there are Saurian and Humanoid dominant races. Hopefully someone might be able to help out.

That sounds a bit like 'Hunters of the Red Moon' and 'The Survivors' by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Paul Edwin Zimmer.
