I have been looking for this one for a long time now, and I'm pretty desperate.

A guy is having a problem with the system he is forced to live in on earth, so he is eventually arrested for being a troublemaker. He is taken to a factory, to work until he dies.
(Something about how he has to keep pumping or he dies)

But he manages to escape when genetically engineered super humans make a grab for power.

The government scrambles for a way to save themselves, and somehow gets the idea that they should make cyborgs in secret on Uranus. The cyborgs goes rouge, naturally. They start kidnapping people and take some of their captives brains and connect them to make a huge monster brain for themselves.

And there was something about a huge mirror weapon by the sun that provided a super laser.

Anyone recognizance it?

This really sounds bizarre enough to be one of Simon R Green's creations.

Wouldn't know which one though because I've only read the Deathstalkers series and though there are a lot of convergent pieces I don't remember someone having to keep pumping to stay alive (though that too is right up Simon's alley).

Nah, that's not it. But thanks for trying.

Also, I remembered some more details:
The main character was trained as a marine/cannon-fodder by the superhumans and then at one point, was fired as a human boarding bullet at an enemy ship. And someone built huge engines inside several moons and tried to ram Earth with them.
The ruler of Earth kills the leader of the superhumans by shooting him with a weaponized prosthetic finger.

The first part sounds exactly like "The Human Legion"... the next 2? Not at all
