All-Know this is a long shot, but looking for a SF book I read when young, don't believe it was a YR type book, because I read way higher than my literal age all my life. Here is synopsis of the book the best I can remember. cannot remember title or author.
Unknown Book=Unknown Author - Found book on street while walking home from school, most likely in the early to mid 60's - Here is what I remember about the book. I cannot do better than below, it was one of the first SF books I had read, except for Doc Savage and Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan. I had not till later in life read of John Carter, and his other works. While in Scotland in the Navy I ran across "The Door into Summer" by Robert A Heinlein, which started me into his works. Most of them I have read or have in my collection. I have read Blush's Star Trek stories, and have read McCaffrey, (own most of her works) and lots of vampire works, etc since them. I am older than you I assume so have an eclectic reading authorship/style/genre. Here is what I remember, any help would be appreciated in figuring out who wrote this and what the title is.
Two brothers working on early radar - after world war II - Using a narrow valley with high sides to conduct tests most likely Nevada or Arizona, one brother was married, one was single. Somehow one of the tests of the radar system gains the attention of an alien species who contacts the unmarried brother and he abducts the other brothers wife (whom he wants for his own) and is taken by this species to help them fight a war with another race whom they want to conquer. I call this one the bad brother/alien race.
The good brother investigates the abduction of the brother and his wife, and is contacted by another race who uses a vastly superior spaceship built for war, let's call her (woman attributes (voice) and attributes are expressed in the communication with the good brother) 3535 or some such number is how it's categorized. This spaceship is capable of transportation (like star trek as I remember) and takes the good brother into the ship as he is recognized as a very intelligent human who can help 3535's race win he war over the bad aliens and stop the aggression and possibly get his wife back in the process. The spaceship likes war, is capable of independent thought and actions, but the Good Brother does not like war (fought in WW-II) and so shows restraint in letting her fight her battles. They come to some understanding and ultimately overcome the alien race staging war, he saves his wife, and as a course his bad brother is killed.
The biggest dilemma now is what to do with 3535, since she is really his to use, so how does he not use the ultimate weapon and yet keep the ship safe and allows her to live, so he and wife can return to earth and live out their days so to speak.
