Gun Duel, Galatic Prisoners, 1K eyed alien, Can't beat him

Hi,

I read the first chapter of a book 3 or 4 years ago. It involves a prisoner dueling a 1,000 eyed alien in a prison. He can't win, the alien is too fast. I'll be sure to leave an answer if the right book is mentioned and end the thread.
