I read this book 5 - 15 years ago. It was probably from a used book store even at that time. It was near future science fiction, but not cyperpunk.
The plot line reminds me of the Elon Musk story.
A CEO has long range goal of getting into space.
Starts a company, takes over a company, buys schools to train her own engineers, hires the best, builds a launch faciliity in South America.
Sends a mission to an asteroid.
The part that sticks in my head is the bit about the school, it was a high school. It was a failing and the company took it over.
