Just Curious - read books after TV show (spoilers!)

I just started to watch the HBO show. I have only watched the last episode, I plan to go back and watch them all. I have held out so long because I did not want the show to ruin my imagination of what I have read in the books. Anyway with it taking so long between books and the last two not being that great I broke down and watched it.

I am not sure why I am curious about this, I see a lot of the treads act as if their is no show and the questions from the books still unanswered. Like for me I still do not know how jon snow came back, but I know he did and I will soon see how. after my binge watch. I am done pretending, Why pretend?

Hey grip, people in this forum don't necessarily pretend the show doesn't exist, but we do try to refrain from talking about it. The show has its own forum on this site for people who wish to discuss it.

I for one am not caught up on the show and didn't know that Jon had been resurrected so...

Sorry, I would not want to spoil anything for you, but at the same time I do not believe you. You have over 1000 post on a dead board. My bet is you are all over the world wide web. It has all over my face book feed for what seems like weeks now. How could you not know

Nark is correct. I am not on facebook (Or twitter, instagram, linkedin or any other social media site) this site, and a forum on woodworking and carpentry is about the extent of my online presence.

I also don't have television, just Netflix, and since Netflix and HBO do not work together at all, there is no chance of me seeing a commercial for the next episode. I honestly only found out that the series was on its next season from these forums. It seems like with every new season, this forum picks up again.

having said that, I can't honestly say ive avoided ALL spoilers, but a lot of the things I have heard are contrary to the books anyway (such as Tyrion and Dany meeting and Sansa being raped by Ramsey)

Speaking for myself I've only seen series 1, and I've already noticed a lot of differences. Scenes that weren't in the books as they happened between non-viewpoint characters, some characters disappearing such as Sansa's friend, others having their roles reduced such as the Hound, others having their role embellished, such as Renly... And I've heard that there are more differences the further you go into the show.

So what may be true in the series may not hold true in the books, or happen as they happened in the show. So there isn't really much point talking about what happened in the show in the book thread when it may happen differently in the future books.

Hey Grip, people are not meant to put spoilers from the TV show on these book threads, and likewise people who read the books aren't meant to put spoilers on the tv thread. Yours seems deliberate, quite a major once to choose. I would agree with Nark on the troll aspect. No point on calling the board dead either just because it doesn't have hundreds of daily posts.

I get that, because of the time the show has to fill or lack time they have to change some things, so, THe outline of the show is still same. I will ask again, why pretend? George RR Martin decided tv would be the medium to reveal the last of his story? I will not reply to any thing above, and if I was a troll their is a lot to eat here.

You could say the same in previous years for many tv series watchers who didn't read the books and didn't want to see spoilers.

I'm not sure you'll get an answer you're satisfied with Grip. It's like @Judderman said, some people want to watch the TV series and not read the books. Some want to read the books and not watch the TV series. Some will do both. It's not about pretending something doesn't exist, it's a choice to enjoy the works in the medium you prefer.

Personally, I've read the books and watched the series as its released. I treat the relationship between them as if it's same event that's being told to me by two different people.

As far as the spoilers go, book spoilers in the book thread is one thing, but bringing TV spoilers into the book thread is going to (rightly) upset people. I'd own that and move on, and maybe a sterner spoiler warning sticky can be added to this board now that the TV series is ahead of the books?

While I want to thank you for throwing me under the bus grip junky, I also need to point out that the title of my thread makes it clear we will be comparing the TV series to the books. Clear and fair warning to all those whom for whatever reason are avoiding the TV series that spoilers await, The title of your thread here does not do that nor is there a spoiler alert above your first post.

As to this being a dead board, no way! I have viewed dozens of similar forums, joined or commented on only one: this one. The people here truly love the story we speak of and treat each other with respect. While some (including myself) may not post for an extended period, we always come back because IMHO we have come to enjoy the opinions, theories (some totally crackpot) and thoughts of our fellow members as much as the story itself.

So having made the points I wish to make, I am done speaking before my inner Arya pipes up!
