I have Natural Reader 14 - does anyone know another free text to speech programme that can say demon? It was funny at first but now the head demo wanting to sacrifice his child is getting old.

The Natural reader website shows a pronunciation editor. You should be able to alter the voice to say it how you want.

Edit: I see it's only included in the paid for editions.

Yes it's one of those things I'm not sure is worth paying for as it's mostly OK. It's just some words ending in n of which demon is one. And writing a fantasy with demons and fairies it mentions it a lot.

I think I mentioned it on here before, but on the Mac you can highlight just about anything (I just did on your post) right click and do Speech->Start Speaking. It pronounced demon just fine.

I've not got a Mac. No idea how to do it on Windows (at present I don't have Linux as under warranty)

Windows has a slightly rubbish speech synthetic. You need go into the settings menu that deals with difficulty using computers, so has contrasts, text to speech, extra gigantic text etc. Once that is done you can tell it to read stuff out. It's very obviously reading individual words though.

Is long time ago I purchased AT&T natural voice as it was the best available. It was used as the computer's voice in Red Planet. The U.K. English voice (Audrey) was excellent and only a few words needed to be altered. It worked well with Final Draft as you could assign different voices to each character.
