Sf book about astronaut stranded on alien planet

I read this book my junior year oh high school in either 2010 or 2011 but i domt know when it was published. From what i can remember it starts out with an astronaut working on a space station with some aliens (humans and aliens were living and working together in the universe) and his best friend was an alien with 4 limbs all on the side of his body. I believe their station is attacked and raided and they get kidnapped and sent to a planet that is somewhat post apocalyptic and i cant remember much after that
