Rickon and Shaggydog

In naming Rickon's wolf Shaggy Dog, is George telling us that Rickon's story is a Shaggy Dog Story?

Hey @Narkalui , did you end up watching season 6 of the show?

I only ask because if you haven't, I would strongly suggest requesting NO SPOILERS in this thread. ;)

I have seen the end of series six :), but I consider the books and tv show to be separate entities and no one yet knows where the line of differences in events will yet lie. So all bets are still off...

Cool, I think they need to run separate courses where they can, otherwise GRRM is just retelling. I think/hope we'll get a few variations yet.

I tend to agree with Brian. I think he fits well into the same mold as his father. Push the plot forward for someone else, but I don't think we've seen enough of him for him to wield much power. Maybe King of the Wildling North! :)

While I don't think it's accidental that GRRM has kept Rickon out of harm's way, I really don't see him ultimately being important at the end of the story.

PS IMHO, this the comments in this thead should NOT mention the TV series. Just my 2 cents.

I fully agree with this. I did not see the show and I managed to remain mostly spoiler free about most things by carefully avoiding threads and sections where such things might be mentioned. At the very least, things should be put in spoiler tags. I also agree with Narkalui about the show and books being separate entities.

I think that Rickon will be used in the resolution of the situation in the North, but he won't be an active agent of it.

Davos's(who along with Brienne I think are the only truly heroic characters in the series) story is now linked with Rickon's. Therefore I believe there may be some legs left in Rickon's story.

I don't feel we have seen the last of Rickon, especially now that Davos knows his whereabouts. I agree with Svalbard that Davos, whether he likes it or not, is a truly heroic figure. My figuring is that Jon and Bran have big things yet to do and they may well not survive them. By the laws of the Seven Kingdoms female can only inherit if there are no male heirs (I think?) so that kinda kicks Sansa out if the world finds out Rickon is alive. Also the remaining Lords of the North (excepting Bear Island) would have a hard time accepting a woman. Yet someone must needs be the Lord of Winterfell in order for the North to bind back together and fight the true enemy heading their way.

After all the trauma he had suffered...I mean, at a young age (what 3? 5?) and already on a run for his life, no proper nutrition--what else dyou expect? It's sad. Although his story is set on fiction but he might as well be like the Syrian boy, Omran.
