Hi there ! I’m French and I have and intermediate/advanced level in English. I decided that to achieve further progress I should read more (a lot more) English books. I’m a big fan of Science-Fiction, fantastic, Heroic-Fantasy books. I remember the good old days (Everything seems better back to our youth… ) when I was reading a lot of pulp fiction from an editor named « Fleuve Noir » (Black River). The collection I used to read was called « Anticipation .» The majority of those novels were written by French authors but not always. They were science-fiction stories, fantastic, fantasy etc. Most of the books I have read were written in the 80s (I was a teenager and participated -without knowing it- to the elaboration of the geek culture… Yep it’s now a big business… even the good old days have a selling price…) and… ah… my imagination and my stimulation were really fertilized by those books. Simple stories, simple characters, but colorful and exotic worlds. I really put the emphasis on that: simple story, simple characters. It's what I'm searching for.
I would like to know if something comparable exists is the U.S, the U.K etc. I’m not talking about magazines like « Amazing Stories » (otherwise excellent) but short novels -approximately 200 pages- written in the Eighties from a single editor (I like the idea of a collection because it does imply a direction, an editorial line).
Any Idea ?
