I am trying to identify an old dusty science fiction paperback book I read. It was centered on a spaceship entirely crewed by men who believed they were the only survivors of an attack on Earth and which had been destroyed by an unknown assailant. The book contained a poem, which may have included the words "dreams of a shattered Earth"
Travelling with the ship was an alien who turned out to be of the race that attacked Earth.
