It would be interesting to see an article about the whole host of authors and John W Campbell influenced Star Trek. Star Trek borrowed whole hog the world building that was done on the pages of Astounding , mostly, starting in 1938 when John W Campbell took over editing the magazine.
Roddenberry acknowledged this , early on when the TV series started.
It is a foundation that seems forgotten in modern times.
Some of the classic authors are represented like Ted Sturgeon (two screenplays) , Harlan Ellison, Fred Brown.... couple of others.
Didn't Isaac Asimov have a strong influence on the original series?
Also, I recall the episode collections were penned by James Blish -- in a world without home video recorders, these were my only way to relive the original series once it ended in the uk...
