Hey,
I'm currently having some trouble with naming a certain archetype of my characters species.
They are, by obvious definition, vampires but they are the first "Generation" of vampires bitten by the progenitor (And no, in my story it's not Dracula - he came much later, chronologically). I need help with coming up with their archetype, such as I have "Progenitor" which is obviously the very first one that became a vampire and then I obviously got the standard vampires which you see in every Vampire story. I can't use, Vampire Lords (Skyrim) and the Originals (Vampire Diaries/The Originals), so I though you guys might help with this particular character development process. Any ideas are appreciated and welcome. :)

What about entering "first born" into an online translator and seeing if any of the suggestions look interesting. Perhaps latin?

-The Heirs (which can allude to being the "firstborn/first sons and daughters").
-The Successors.
-First Scions

I read one story years ago and they were called Sire - the one in charge of each clan, with the higher ups being Lord Sires. i think the top one was the Prime Sire

How about the first bite? :D

No seriously, how about Cardinals? Nice religious connotation thrown in for free with that one.

Perhaps you might reference the first born as the "Root Lord/Lady" of their race/species. Or in a bit of a blood twist you might also call him or her the "Dark Heart" of the species?

Just some ideas...

Cheers!

It could work...

"In the cold the old stones took on a pitted texture as the dim light played over their surface. The others were studying each other in a bid to break the tension that had taken hold of the order.
They felt him and it sent a wave of excitement and fear in the stoic band. They inclined their heads and gave silent homage to the black shadow that strode into their perception. For all knew that the Dark Heart of their kind was among them. First and most savage in his elegant eternal grace."

It might work as a title. ;)

If you've read "Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" or related stuff, you might be thinking of this:

Priory of Sion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah, I've seen the Da Vinci Code (and read the book) and I know what you mean but I was taking more of in a term of this: since they are called the Scion's, they are like my equivalent to Vampire Lords of such and the Order of Scion could be like the order of the "higher class" vampires, like some sort of Vampire elder council...

I also like the Dark Heart idea and I like the paragraph describing it in some sort of scene...however, I have only one problem with it. And it's a big one. The Primogenitor of Homus Noctura, is ultimately a good guy, he had a dark origin story (will go into detail later) but he ultimately triumphant against the natural predator side that was inside him but after defeating his origin story's Protagonist (an ancient Grecian called Nero - yes I know that Nero was also a Roman emperor but that's not why I named him the same) he turns his back on the violent life he led up till that point and spent the next several centuries seeing the world and it's cultures before becoming disgusted with a world that he believed had "become obsessed with enslaving itself to false gods and power-hungry prophets" (him, quoting the world's change from the old polytheistic religions to the new worlds monotheistic religions as the Crusades began to rock Europe, can't blame him, he is a very old Grecian who has seen alot and he is very much stuck in his ancient Grecian ways). He went into a sort of self-induced hibernation (yes, in a coffin, in a tomb) and wasn't awoken until a mining expedition came searching for his resting place in the fall of 1943 (I think the Germans bite of more than they could chew with this one - sorry about the terrible pun). So anyway, what I'm trying to say is I don't think the Dark Heart would work well as either a way of describing him or a title for him as he may have been dark in the beginning but he has denounced that style of living for living in secret but yet in harmony with the Humans of the world.

And my Primogenitor of Homus Noctura is called Silas Dracovius (Had to reference Dracula somewhere in my works though, didn't I? Like a kind of nod to the original idea of the first Vampire) and he's roughly 3,500 years old, and of course, a nobleman

I can understand that. In that case the vampires might still use the term "Dark Heart" whereas the character might simply state that he is indeed the "Heart" of the species or perhaps the "Prime Heart" of the species.
He might also refer to himself as the "Blood Source" from whence all others flow.

Hmmmm, indeed they might. Still, even if he has devoted living in peace with the Humans, the Vampires might still have some sort of underlining fear/respect for him, obviously. As he was the first of them and by far the most powerful of them all. :)

Just a side footnote too. The name/word "Dark" need not connote evil. Perhaps the character is known for his obscure or hidden personage. He might be a shadow in the darkness. Visually difficult even for his own to see before he is there.

Dark can have many diverse meanings. ;)

Ok so I've done a drawing of what I think Silas would look like in his origin story (not modern day but Ancient Greece). Would you guys let me know what you think? Just wanting some feedback, but please be nice (and yes, I know what criticism is but you know just only positive or constructive criticism please, none of that negative stuff)...

So here it is....Silas Dracovius, The Imperator...
