Lord of Light Movie

Did anybody ever try to make Lord of Light into a movie. or does anyone know of plans to do so now. It's one of those things I've been waiting for YEARS now but despair I will ever see and there have been so many much lesser works that have succeeded quite well

There were plans to do so in the 70s - if I remember rightly (from what I read, I wasn't born until the 80s!), a screenplay was in progress and storyboards were drawn up. They were actually used in a CIA rescue attempt to get 6 Americans safely out of Iran, which was the basis of Argo, the Ben Affleck film from a few years ago.

I might be getting mixed up with another book, but I seem to remember reading about a current director or actor having an option on Lord of Light.
