Promotional Experiment

I am doing this experiment thing to make me feel comfortable about promoting my art-story project.

Self promotion is tricky, at least for me, I feel kinda weird to share same thing more than twice because I fear it might bore people. But this has forced me to think creatively to promote my work.

Now, I am trying to focus on my passion project---where I paint covers and write short stories based on those cover paintings.
The stories usually fall under psychological and paranormal horror.

And to promote this, I have created my online persona, who actually writes and paints the stories. Because that's me. And I have an adopted child, Aulaad, who is a monster.

I will be sharing my personal life, my adventures with the daughter in this promotional series.

This might help me feel better about promotion, because now it has some value. I want people to feel excited about my promotional material. And not think of it like a boring ad.

And because I am a geek, I do very subtly reference pop culture stuff in my stories, this is also an opportunity for me to show off my love for comics, scifi and fantasy; while doing horror.

I have just started this so I cannot quite say if it works or not, but I am seeing some positive things. Since last week my fb page has 7 new followers, so I am hopeful. This is extra work, but I am going to do it anyway. At least for a few months to see how much it works. Hope this might give you some idea to go creative.

How are you doing promotion? Are you planning to do something out of the box? What you think of this approach? Let me know in the comments.

PS: The photos have been removed, I guess they are not allowed in the post. But if anyone is curious to see the promo ads, they can be found on my facebook: /grimoeuvre

IMO it strikes me as a distraction - better to use excerpts from your stories and then link out. Otherwise the ads themselves may be seen as the actual story. Unless they actually are??

Yes, well, they are a separate stories. I am thinking more like these ads to be a story of the author.

Initially I also thought they could be distracting, but then because I am incorporating this into the personal life of the author, as the digital self is writing those stories, I wouldn't actually mind if some people follow this story more than the actual contes.
I think it will only give me two separate audience to cater to.

But all this is speculation. Like I said it's a very early stage of the experiment, so I cannot back any of my claims. But in my head this might work for my business model. As I am planning to use Patreon; and to sell art prints along with the printed book collection.

@brian, oh, I must also add that this is not the only promotion I will be doing. As I am also sharing the actual story covers and excerpts for promotion.
Sorry, if this wasn't clear.
