After a few years I've recently re-read the trilogy and (like the first time I read it) I'm a bit confused by a minor paragraph. The two sisters Louise and Genevieve from the rural planet are going across the Commonwealth looking for Joshua. On one world the older sister decides they need neural implants to get up to date with education and communications etc . They go to some cyber shop to get this done and the punk doing the installation notices that Louise already has scars from previous implant work despite her isolated upbringing . Was this issue ever explained somewhere and I somehow missed it? anyone?

I think this happens in the second or third book - I've a feeling its a middle to latter part of the story as things were really ramping up in complexity and interactions.

Yes this is covered, although if I recall right its covered after the event. It's been a long while since I read it so I can't recall exact details but it is covered. From memory she encounters some people before this visit to the shop and those people implant her with some monitoring device in her mind. I can't recall if there's any interaction between the old and the new elements - I've a hazy feeling the new neural implants she gets nullifies the old (thus diminishing her observers ability to monitor her).

Ok cheers - I've obviously read it twice and missed that original implant both times .. all I noted with puzzlement was ,as I stated, the tech guy seeing scars on her neck. thanks very much ! The first time I read it all was chunky paperbacks but last month I finished them as three massive epubs and then deleted to free some storage space

Aye if I recall right whilst the nanobots in her head are a major scene and twist the previous element is a smaller part of a sub-plot - important but not something the story overly dwells upon for very long.

Wasn't this a reference to the fact that Louise had been "bugged" with implants by Earth's governing body?

possibly but as I said I read them recently as ebooks and then deleted them . I just couldn't recall from earlier in the saga anything being done neurologically to her by the Earth authorities. it must have been a minor detail that I'd forgotten by the time I slogged through to the 'scars paragraph' - minor detail but both read throughs I recall being puzzled
