SCI-Fi where spaceship becomes the Solar System

A ship separates and creates the Solar system. The engine creates the sun, Living area the earth. Then the pilot ends up shrinking or something as life evolves... I am really trying to remember the book I read back in High School almost 30 years ago

this rings a bell with me , like you say, a long time ago . I think the alien pilot was some kind of wasp species but very big. can you remember that ?

At the end of the final book of James Blish's Cities in Flight the main character ends up engendering a whole new universe.
