OK, he's (they're) not the most important character, but who else is fond of Zathras? I enjoy his direly optimistic outlook.

"But only Zathras have no one to talk to. No one manages poor Zathras, you see. So Zathras talks to dirt. Or to walls, or talks to ceilings. But dirt is closer. Dirt is used to everyone walking on it. Just like Zathras. But we have come to like it. It is our role. It is our destiny in the universe. So, you see, sometimes dirt has insects in it. And Zathras likes insects. Not so good for conversation, but much protein for diet. Hmmm, huh, huh, very good! - Zathras fix now. Come, this way."

The way he self-depreciates is endearing - presumably intentional, not least to help us sympathise with Zathras when he inexplicably appears in Season 1: Babylon Squared.

Am still catching up with a rewatch and can't wait to see him re-appear again in Season 3. :)

Both I and my wife very much enjoyed the limited appearances made by Zathras. He was funny in a quirky way, while being serious and important.

Of all the limited appearance characters, he is by far the most interesting and memorable.

Another Zathras fan here. I do also like the multiple Zathrases - and how all their names are supposed to be audibly different but no-one can hear the difference. Can see him now with lugubrious face and all those stripy tails swinging on his jacket. Have to say too that "Not the one" is a bit of a tag line in our household especially on a silly day.
"Do you want this plate?"
"Not the one. Nah, nah, not the one."

It's too bad Tim Choate the actor who played Zathras is no longer with us.:(
