The Return of Doctor Mysterio (Christmas Special 2016)

Fun-filled Christmas Special, as usual -- with just a touch of sadness.
The Doctor had not been on Earth for 24 years -- the last "day" of the life of River Song.

I was hoping for more focus on The Doctor, but sadly his story was rather secondary. It was fairly good overall, but not for the reasons I wanted them to be.

I only hope the new series, when we finally get it, The Doctor becomes central and the companions go back to being window dressing.

I was extremely happy to see the return of the sonic screwdriver and the sonic RayBans gone.

I liked it! I even watched about half of it again, but then had to do other things.

Just changed the title of this thread to reflect the fact that the episode has aired, and it's not a sneak peek anymore. If anyone wants to add an episode blurb to the first post, send it along and I'll pop it up there. :)

Can anyone refresh my memory as to who the guy on the left was, and where the Doctor acquired him? He said something about that which rang a bell, but I couldn't quite place him. Is that because I don't have any reason to know, or is he from somewhere else?

And I thought it was just my own failing memory,
I heard (or seem to think I heard) references to reassembling him and reattaching his head. Was he was of the guys inside the giant mechanical cyborg in The Husbands of River Song?

Edit: Yup. Here we go.

Is Matt Lucas in the next series of Doctor Who?

I got that he was one of the heads but because I don't remember a lot about that story I thought I'd forgotten something ... because the last time we saw the robotic body with the heads inside after the evil one was dealt with, the heads were operating on a timeshare and it seemed that was the best quality of life they could hope for ... so if he did it for one of them, couldn't he have done it for the rest? Also this is taking the Doctor's surgical powers to a height where you would have expected him to be able to save quite a lot of past companions surely?

Yes! I couldn't remember the word he used that sounded familiar, but it was Hydroflax. I just couldn't remember what that was. Thanks!

I may be just hallucinating, but didn't Dr. Mysterioso (and maybe not played by Matt Lucas) appear in the Tardis way back when Amelia Pond had to "chose" who her child's dad was?

I don't know about the previous Doctor Mysterio reference in the show, but I did learn, in the article liked below, that Doctor Mysterio is what they call Doctor Who in Mexico. Muy divertido.

I noticed most of the Superman references in this episode, particularly the Daily Planet-style revolving globe atop the Harmony Shoal HQ. Comic book fans had a lot more available.
