Just had another standalone episode in Season 3 - I think it was the second one so far.
And it left me thinking that I could happily watch a couple of additional seasons of standalone episodes, with little story arc, if any.
It used to be the case that I felt in a rush to see how the background arcs would develop - I think I still feel that, even now - remembering the really good bits and wanting to get to them quickly.
But, even the standalone are clever and intelligent, and worth watching in themselves.
It's almost a shame we never got something like that. A grand arc is great stuff, but a chilled spin-off could have been something else.
