For those that didn't catch it. This is the summary for the other WIP that I had in mind. It's a fast moving thriller and I will post what I have written of it for a critique this weekend or the next. Still have to smooth it out some.

I just want to know if the summary makes sense or if you feel jipped and would rather read about how the world will deal with no internet. I would like to include both of these topics in the novel, but maybe I should make them separate?? Depending on what makes more sense. What do you think of this?

Summary Starts Here:

In The Disconnect, a post-apocalyptic thriller where the internet has been wiped from existence due to a mysterious global hacking event, Technology Historian Daphne Perry is recruited to investigate how an old forgotten Virtual Reality community has managed to stay online.

It’s been decades since the ruthless political prisoner known only by his online handle as IQ666 first wreaked havoc around the world. Now, thanks to pleas for help from the more rational minds in the community federal agents are close on his trail but they are too scared to go near the net.

With their help Daphne gathers the courage to connect, and brings together a rag-tag group of people who have been doing nothing but arguing with each other for decades in VR isolation, in an effort to hunt him down. To catch the rumored ring leader hiding deep within the community and to solve the mystery of The Disconnect they must weed through the splintered hierarchy of what was once known as the internet.

I think it's an interesting premise and sounds like it could be a good book.(y)
That said, I think the summary works fine for us here on Chrons, but probably not as a blurb (which I don't think you were leaning towards at this stage, but just in case;)).
Once the MSS is complete (or first draft complete at least), the summary and blurb might be easier to write. But I would say that, because I rarely have a clue how something I start will finish till I get to the end:D

I have to make at least some sort of summary first before I start. I used to not do that but lately do, whenever I come up with an idea I want to flesh out more. Glads you like it.

This is a rough guide. We need the usual Cli-fi. Stakes. Objective. Twist - wait a minute - didn't we cover this before? ;) Anyway, the idea may have merit, but it's not as yet clear enough.

In a post-apocalyptic world where the internet has been wiped from existence by hacker extraordinaire 'IQ666', a govt agent discovers one Virtual Reality community that has somehow managed to stay online for decades. In an effort to [achieve the central plot]Technology Historian Daphne Perry, is recruited to investigate.

Aided by the fractious and unruly group of Virtual Reality geeks, Daphne is hot on the trail of fabled hacker IQ666. But not all is as it seems. Because of a/ , b/ and unexpectedly, c/.

Restoring a fractured and once abusive system to a technology wary citizenry will cost Daphne not only x, but quite possibly y. If she succeeds she may restore the human race to abc, if she loses, she'll bring the world to its barbaric knees, for ever.

It’s been decades since the ruthless political prisoner known only by his online handle as IQ666 first wreaked havoc around the world. Now, thanks to pleas for help from the more rational minds in the community federal agents are close on his trail but they are too scared to go near the net. This is flat and empty. We need to know why federal agents are scared, we really do.

With their help Daphne gathers the courage to connect, and brings together a rag-tag group of people who have been doing nothing but arguing with each other for decades in VR isolation, in an effort to hunt him down. To catch the rumored ring leader hiding deep within the community and to solve the mystery of The Disconnect they must weed through the splintered hierarchy of what was once known as the internet Confusing.

I'm no good at summaries and blurbs, but for what it's worth your premise would have me reading at least the first few chapters I think.
My only pointer, which im sure is already in there and just hasn't come across as clearly as I need (hammer over head is squally what I need:confused:) is to have IQ666 being involved in the hidden VR Community, to make the connection between the plot threads and characters :)

Thanks. I see I have some holes to fill in that might not necessarily be apparent right now in these early stages. I couldn't fill in some of the blanks myself yet.

OK That is good to note. Though I am struggling with the idea if he should be a known legend in the world, or he is discovered accidentally while searching for a reason why the VR community is still online.

I think you story sounds exciting and the plot makes sense and is "easy" to understand. I wouldn't mind reading that book!:D

Regarding your summary - if I am to add something to the above comments - in the last paragraph, it is not clear to me who the ring leader is. I assume he is IQ666 - but I would like an explanation of how he went from becoming politcal prisoner to feared ring leader. The link is not clear to me. And the community you mention in last paragraph - is that the same VR community? And why have they been arguing?

Good luck!(y)
