Big Intellectual Books You Own and Would Really Like to Have Read

"I lent them to someone in the 90s and have never regretted it."

Well, now, that's something you don't read everyday around here.

I can feel quite irritated with people who do not return books. Maybe less so, these days.

In the case of Jung's Collected Works, I'd realised that I was not going to read them further, and the person I lent them to was very keen to have them. I could still reclaim them. Jung's writing style in his more complex works is not easy, and there's lots of cross-referencing between volumes. A certain dedication is needed.

So it's effectively providing addition shelf space for you. If you could get the friend to lend you a key to their house, and if they're local to you, you could lend them lots of books that take up shelf space and which you don't wish to re-read immediately. Its a concept I've not considered before.

What a truly excellent idea!

I'm reminded of those second hand booksellers who quote prices by the foot for stocking your shelves with books. Maybe we could offer a cheaper alternative.

Hmm, is anyone else getting ideas for a start-up? Air Read-n-Shelve (need to work on the name). For a modest fee, we'll store your books on our shelves. Only high-quality, intellectual type books, mind you. We want to look classy while we're making money.
