The setting: Earth discovers alien civilization more advanced and they provide space travel and join the the group of galactic civilizations . Earth turns out to be a violent species so they get kicked out and intergalactic travel be taken away only to have the same group ask for help when war erupts somewhere else. Earth negotiates having space travel back in exchange of providing able soldiers for this war AKA the scum and criminals of the Earth.

Welcome to the Chrons. :)

It's still in the pile so I haven't read it yet but it sounds like it could be Alan Dean Foster's The Damned Trilogy. However, I thought at the time that I was picking them up that it seemed like a familiar premise so you may be looking for an earlier rendition. I couldn't bring to mind then what that earlier thing was, though, and still can't.

I don't think it's the Damned - am fairly certain I've read this a few years ago so will think hard and hopefully remember

earlier than the Damned but same author ..... 'With friends like this' by Alan Dean Foster

While it is close to both suggested series/stories, they are not the one I am talking about. It is for sure a new series or book. I either read about it in io9 or some other site posting new releases.
What really stands out from the story is how originally Earth had or was given interstellar travel, but due to our violent nature, we are then confined to our solar system and interstellar travel taken away. Then after some time this group of civilizations either encounter a new treat or start a war between each other and they come back to Earth to enlist our help. That's where they negotiate the deal of exchanging the interstellar travel for soldiers, but the soldiers were specifically criminals. It is this the main part of the story on how these criminals are given command of a spaceship to fight the war.

I hope I did not just dream this up, it sounds super cool and interesting... I am sure I read about this book somewhere recently.

Sounds similar to Alan Dean Foster's short story, "With Friends Like These." A Terra-Uber-Alles story. The Terran's space ship is impressive! Up the Veen!

That's weird. I read that story from his first collection (of which it's the title story) at the beginning of this year and didn't even think of it in this context, but did think of something by the same author I hadn't read yet. Weirder still, the last book I finished reading? ... his second collection, called "...Who Needs Enemies?" o_O
