I thought Mayhem was a fantasy - not a science paper

There's no science behind it in that article unless you are referencing something else?

Personally I think it's just a load of mumbo jumbo although it sounds really cool. I think Olaf Stapledon did this very well in Star Maker with the Galactic and eventually Universal Overminds.

The problem with crazy and unprovable abstract ideas promoted by actual scientists is they get more traction than if they were promoted by a mate down at the pub, although to be fair he did say it was best thought about looking through an empty beer glass!

If this sort of thing interests you and you haven't read Star Maker I can highly recommend it.

To be honest I'm not that interested - it was a childish idea years ago. However, if scientists don't have big ideas they would never progress. Some science happens by accident and other happens by "well how do I prove that". Crazy and unproven ideas are fun and will always be abstract. But there are the elements of well if this is this, and that is that then maybe this is this.

I just thought it was funny ;).

I find the whole idea of non organic sentience really interesting and I love alien aliens.

With regards to abstract ideas I think that's as far as we will ever get, I think there are some things in this universe that we will never be able to understand.
