Book about aliens, mc named Loki

I don't remember much? I didn't get far into it. I think it had a dark cover and i vaguely remember it having a weird name. I think it had to do with aliens? I remember the first chapter involving someone coming up yo someone important with an egg and being like "prophecy child, m8" or something and then the next chapter dealt with a kid named Loki sneaking out. I think he also traveled somewhere with some ppl and they talked some politics.

Try 'the fires of paratime' by LE Modesitt.
The protagonist is named Loki and he and his people are alien.
I just found it online and a long time ago I read it myself, can't remember if a prophecy but I know he was a rebel against his society
