Trivia - The Word and The Void

Who said this... and who to about whom?

"He cannot be anything other than what he is, even if he pretends otherwise. Those who serve the Word will always know him. More importantly, those who serve the Void will know him as well."

I think it was said by Two Bears to Nest Freemark about John Ross, during the period that Ross tried to give up being a Knight of the Word and was living in San Fransisco with Stephanie.

I can remember three.

Findo Gask - love the wide brimmed salesman act.
Twitch - Huge dude
Penny Dreadful - Goth chick

I can't remember the name of the last one, I know it's something obscure and I remember this particular demon wouldn't take human form. Can't remember the name other than it being awkward to pronounce. :S

@dekket Alexa can have this one. There was no way I was going to remember that name, I could just remember it was a really weird one.

I'll take my chances on the next question from @Alexa

You deserve this one more than myself @SilentRoamer, as you did the heavy work. :)

Anyway, here you have my question: What was John Ross doing before accepting to be a Knight of the Word and where he was born ?

Note: this may look like two questions, but actually helps you with the first one.

John Ross was born in the United States of America.

Depending on whether by accepting to be a Knight of the Word it is meant when he pledged to the Lady in the Fairy Glen, or when he took the black staff of office from Two Bears, he was either 'drifting' or 'sitting on his bed'.

Before going to the Fairy Glen and meeting the Lady, and accepting to be a Knight of the Word, John Ross travelled to England and Wales on his odyssey, being not yet 30 years of age.
Prior to that he drifted, having earned an undergraduate degree in English Literature, but then migrated to a series of different schools and graduate programs, not completing any (though twice he almost completed his masters), surviving on scholarships and grants, as his parents no longer supported him financially.
He travelled to England to learn more about his English heritage. He drifted through England, Scotland and after a year travelled to Wales. He stayed in a cottage owned by a friend outside of Betws-y-Coed. Ranging from the cottage, he came across the Fairy Glen on a hike. At the glen he encountered a fisherman, that told him to come back at night if it was magic he was looking for. The fisherman turned out to be Owain Glyndwr, Welsh patriot turned Knight of the Word, and a distant ancestor of Ross.
Ross meet the Lady at night, and pledged himself to her service.

Travelling back to the United States, he went back to his parent's house and waited, and as weeks went by, eventually began to doubt it ever happened.
Then as John Ross was sitting on his bed, O'olish Amaneh came to Ross and offered him the Black Staff. After a discussion, O'olish Amaneh told John to take the staff, which he did. When John took the staff, fire ripped through his body, and his left foot became twisted. The staff became bound to John, and John to it, becoming a Knight of the Word.
That night was the first time John Ross dreamt of the future, having accepted his duty.
