Landfall is the first novel by Jerry Aubin, and the first in “The Ship Series.” I would classify it as a Young Adult Novel. The story is about two 15 year olds, Zax, a flight crew cadet and his friend and fellow cadet Kalare. They are traveling aboard a ship that is seeding the universe with what remains of humanity after an ecological crisis has rendered earth unhabitable. The mission has been on-going now for 5000 years. The story is one of Zax and Kalare's life aboard the ship as part of the crew. Almost from the beginning of the book there is a hint that all is not exactly as it is portrayed aboard the ship.
This is clearly book one of the series. I found the characters Zax and Kalare to be believable and engaging. I found myself continually looking for what was going to happen in the next chapter. Jerruy Aubin's book reminded me of some of the YA books by Heinlein and that's pretty good indeed.
