Female elves in fantasy literature

First time posting in this forum, but not even Google could help me with this question so hopefully somebody here can - I am desperately trying to find a book/series of books/comic book where the lead character is a female elf. If not lead character then at least second fiddle.
Re-watched the Hobbit movies and while I know some people didn't like them, I did. And I loved the addition of Tauriel as that book is amazing but obviously lacking in female characters. And that character has a lot of potential for growth which is a shame because she exists only in those films and it is obviously unlikely that the Middle-Earth of those films will ever be revisited. So I was just curious if there was anything out there that somebody might point me (and my wife who is also interested in this) in the right direction? Thanks!

You might want to look up wider Ann Logston Shadow. The main character is a female Elf name Shadow , she and adventurer sand a thesis and very cool . There are several book in this series.

The Forgotten Beast of Eld by Patricia McKillip you might find to be of interest. The Mian character is a sorceress named Cybel. She not an elf but the way she looks and acts she could be one. This is great fantasy novel an worth checking out.

Also The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson . In this book you have Elves, Trolls and Changelings. This book is a classic of the first order.

Welcome Chons Benji and please keep posting .:)

The King of Elflands Daughter by Lord Dunsany . Another great classic.(y)

Thanks so much! The Shadow series sounds exactly like what I'm after and Forgotten Beast of Eld sounds good either way.

It's funny you mention it, I just cracked open Broken a Sword this morning and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of The King of Elfland's Daughter so I've got my reading sorted for a while now.

The Broken Sword came out about the she time as LOTR and The Kind of Elfland's Daughter came out early 20th century. Great stuff. (y)

Suppose you could argue Dragonlance counts.

Uhm. Hrm. This one seems quite tricky. Oh! Wishstones of Shannara, and probably some of the others.

It sounds like the OP found what was sought, but the comic Elfquest also fits.

Not sure whether you would call this fantasy literature, but how about Titania from Midsummer Night's Dream?

Pratchett also has some interesting elves, at least some of them female.

From Tolkein, apart from Arwen (who isn't actually an active character in the main story until the end) how about Galadriel? And from the Silmarillion, several very important female elves including Luthien and Idril Celebrindal.
