He really deserves his own thread. His writing is of the highest quality. If you have read any of his works please share your thoughts here. I'm doing a re-read of a Lonesome Dove which I had not finished the last time. It's really well-written and entertaining. Should I read the rest in the series and what about his other books?
 
I'll be starting this in the spring. I'm really looking forward to it! CC
 
I've never read any of his novels nor, so far as I know, seen any of the movies based on them, but a friend with good taste recommended McMurtry's Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen, and I'm enjoying it. It's about discovering books and deciding to be a writer while coming from big-sky, arid, empty Texas. I would think that many people for whom books are important would like it.
 
I read "Lonesome Dove" back in the day and enjoyed it immensely. It starts out epic and ends rather grimly. I enjoyed the TV video extended versions very much... for the first half dozen times.

But it's on repeat all of the wretched time. Enough already.
