I haven't watched much of the Capaldi stuff and am not sure what role Matt Lucas is playing. Do I really need to know much about that character before jumping in?

We need a Time Lord who's prepared to stick around for a few years.
Also what's with the companions always being women nowadays?
Used to be blokes to do all the running around while the Doctor did cerebral stuff. True there was usually a girl as well, at times just in a bikini.
Also I remember faintly at one time he also had a silver skinned cyborg for a series or so.
Not forgetting K9!

I don't think so. I enjoyed the last Christmas special while wondering where the Doctor had acquired Nardole. I had to Google Lucas to place him.
That could be just me. I had an entire year to forget a character who became an unexpected sidekick to the Doctor.

I'm not sure I'm looking forward to the new series. Dreading might be closer to the mark, but I'm hopeful the writing will finally take a turn for the better.

@Ensign Shah not as yet. It's on my box, but Easter got in the way and I haven't had time yet. I'll get to it this weekend I'm sure.
