How long until the BBC edit this?

I know. It clearly isn't a disaster: it's all too typical of the BBC's slapdash ways these days, so barely worthy of a mention.

It used to be the BBC had no little idea about science (give or take a few specialists), but at least by employing all those English and Classics graduates form Oxbridge, they could craft decent sentences. Sadly, in terms of not having the English language mangled, those days are long gone.

I work as an editor and proofreader so during my breaks I go on the BBC website to catch up on the news and with my proofreading eyes still on I see so many mistakes! Forgotten full stops and spelling mistakes and a lot of words missed out altogether.

Hey, shouldn't it be: "...the BBC edits this?"? :censored:

It can be either: organisations (and, for example, teams and military units) can be spoken of as both singular entities and as groups of people. The verb being used indicates (at least, one hopes it indicates) the particular aspect that the writer wished to highlight.

In this case, dannymcg is describing the BBC as a collection of people, one of whom (with or without managerial oversight :)) needed to correct the mistake.
