HBO to Develop ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoffs

Hmm, interesting. I'll await the reviews and feedback. There have been rumors of a young Ned Stark series. That could be fun. We'll see.

I'd love to see a series around Robert's Rebellion, which I think has a lot of good stuff to mine. However I do wonder if that would work as where would the suspense be? We know how it turns out. We know who lives and dies. Will there be enough of a carry-over audience for that to be successful?

I'd say the most likely is the Dunk and Egg novellas, then second most likely is something set around the Dance of the Dragons. The latter would need a good budget, though, what with all the dragons.

There are only 13 episodes left in HBO’s hit series, which the network is breaking up into two seasons — seven this year, and six next year.

I found that information irksome. HBO delays the start of season 7 from April to July, then it shorts us three episodes this year and four for the final year? What the (insert expletive of choice here)!?
If HBO doesn't make amends by making some of those episodes more than an hour long, well, I'll ... just keep on watching. :)

Yes, that's right. They are holding all the cards and they know it.

I never got into the Dunk and Egg stories. other possibilities would be the rise and Doom of Valyria and the Century of Blood

At the end of the day, heaps of possibilities.
I just happened to think, a series centered around Robert's Rebellion need not actually have Robert, Ned Stark, and the others as characters. it could center around new characters who happen to get involved in the action.

A new report in Variety states the Dunk & Egg, Robert's Rebellion, and Aegon the Unlikely will not be filmed

This link from George's blog was also posted on the GRRM forum.

It appears to be true about there being scripts for spinoffs, so 1 or more could come to fruition. But they wont be doing Dunk and Egg or Robert's Rebellion. They should be new stories.

About Those Spinoffs...

Would like them to do the Blackfyre rebellions, perhaps starting with the moment Aegon the Unworthy gives to sword Blackfyre to Deamon Rivers.

Also I'd like a cinema release movie of Aegons Conquest.

I would love to see them do something with the Blackfyre rebellion.

That's just what EVERYONE wants, all those mysteries answered....
But George will NEVER let them, at least not until he's published the story...
What you said is a much better reason for the The Children and the First Men. I was thinking we would get to see the first Starks, a wild land and THe Children before they were beaten back. I never thought mysteries answered and all. That would be great!

We'd find out how the Iron Born started worshiping the Others, about the first Daynes and their sword Dawn, Garth Greenhand, Battle Isle, the dragon skeleton on Wyk, Symeon Star Eyes, Serwyn of the Mirror Shield...

So many questions and no answers!
