This would be cool!

my WIP is actually based off of a timeline I created myself using a simple word processor back in 2009. Honestly you don't really need any type of specific software to do this. In fact, since I know a little bit about web design, I created an interactive timeline for the WIP for a project, and then later around 2011, I filled out some encyclopedic pages about the break down of the religions, families, economy, and politics in the world. Not all of them, just the basics.

However, I learned the hard way that the story has to come first. I was sitting on this wonderful world for 6-7 years before I came up with a worthy story to tell about it.

Someone somewhere mentioned using a spreadsheet but I want a bit of flare to the timeline, not another boring spreadsheet. When I forget history details, I get discouraged and don't even wanna write. Like right now. I totally lost my mojo today because I can't get timelines and events right. I have started using Scrivener which is working wonders. I have everything right there in front of me. Also, I don't think I'll actually publish my story when it's done. I decided in a very dark moment to just get it out the best I can. I don't have to publish.

Aeon Timeline is my go to. And it connects with Scrivener. When you add something in Aeon Timeline, it updates in your Scrivener document. I can't recommend it enough. I use it all the time when I'm plotting a story.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can edit the units of time. So, if your world measures time differently, you can set it up that way. I seem to recall a video on their website that explains how.

ETA: I can't add links yet, but the web address is aeontimeline dot com.

This is why i thot a program might be cool. I have 30 years of gaming in my world, and putting everything on a timeline is exhausting lol

I use a simple Gantt chart which doesn't need to have software attached. Failing that I'm fairly sure if you had a look at project management software it would include timelines.

I have used Word power point and being old school, a pen and an A3 sheet of paper on a pin board. The latter I find ideal as I can stick pictures, scraps of fabric, etc, up as well as scribble notes on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked into it and decided to download Aeon 2 for a really low price.
