Strand (Photo by Michael Desmond/AMC)

Following a harrowing journey, the Clark family arrive at their new home. Strand faces resistance as he attempts to hold power over his domain.

So the big man is gone. Travis literally fell out from the chopper. It was his own choice, unlike the one Strand was forced to make after he let Mexican's refugees in the hotel. He should have never acted like a doctor, giving people hope. It is commodity that is in short supply.

I cannot see how it is going to be any different at the ranch. People who have gathered there are all traumatised by the events. The only who seem to have half of brain left is Jeremiah, but I think he made a mistake when he assigned that pistol to Madison. Guns are going to make situation only worse. In the parent series they've done this correctly by using the armoury in the Alexandria rather than having one on everyone all of the time.

Why? Well, a lot of people has lost their mind and guns are never good on their hands. Humanity has a long history with accidents and murders, but it seems we never learn. We always make mistakes by trusting wrong things to people, and believing they are never going to do any good. Maybe it's our society fault.

Not only was Travis' death unexpected, it was hollow.
After surviving being tossed in a walker-filled pit with nothing more than concrete blocks and rebar for weapons, he is felled by random sniper fire while aboard what should have the safety of a helicopter. That explained the short dialog exchange about altitude.
As long as the showrunners knew Cliff Curtis was heading on to bigger and better things ( ‘Avatar’ Sequels Update: ‘Fear The Walking Dead’s Cliff Curtis Signs On For Lead Role ), they could have given him a more noble death scene.
Did Travis miraculously survive his gunshot wound and fall? Almost certainly not. In addition to his new gig, Curtis was among guests on the Talking Dead episode which followed the double season premiere -- invariably the seal of doom on a character who has apparently died in the latest episode.
Madison's plans to take control of Broke Jaw Ranch are reminiscent of Rick's Alexandria takeover. I have doubts about her success. Madison is no Rick, and Nick is no Carol.

To be honest I think they've read our forum and thought it was best to get rid the last member on the kill-list. Travis was put on it at the last final and it's really sad to see he had to go and Strand stay, while I'd loved to see pacifist-psycho remaining in the cast. I was actually looking forward seeing him struggling to keep up with his fate at this summer as I'm sure he could have come up as a reason of light for the darkness Madison is casting around.

I read that Alice is going to take huge role now that main cast has been reduced to four and everyone else are destined to become zombie food. How she is going to do that I yet to have to find out. And I admit I'm a bit cynical when it comes to her survival skills. Nick however will surely find out a way to get high. And possibly trouble on the way. Maybe he should start thinking about growing some medicine on those hills as they surely get plenty of sunshine.

I was surprised at Travis's demise. After the Walker pit I thought he was indestructible.

Can we add Strand to the kill list ?

The old man I feel is ex-miitary who probably used his ranch to train people in preparation for the end of world.

The Clarke family are turning physcotic, I'm not sure any of them have any humanity left. Well maybe Alicia has a little.

If the Travis actor left of his own accord that is a shame for the show. An issue with having relatively big established names in a series. I would think nick and Alicia could be tempted to do big movies. If they are going to kill someone off at least let it be planned to be exciting or more meaningful. Travis had seemed to be a liability but possibly able to come out the other side. Seems Chris effectively took Travis with him.
Also I think the remaining 3 members of the Clarke family are unkillable (unless the actors do other projects). There is simply too few original characters left already. Strand surely should be around for a long time. Ofelia is still about somewhere too right. Presumably Nick's girlfriend and I expect Jake Otto (Sam Underwood) will be major characters.

All that said it was still an interesting episode. I just hope they don't spend ages in this new location, Walking Dead style. It may happen as they are considering trying to take over. Strand would have some journey to turn up there.

If I was to put a bet on it the season will be set at the ranch and the last episode will be the collapse of said ranch by a zombie horde who appear out of the ether.

Sorry to see Travis go. He was, with Alicia, the most likeable of the Clarke clan.

It was another strong episode.

I almost posted in the last episode thread that the only thing wrong with this series was that, unlike TWD, there wasn't the same feeling that any of the cast could die at any moment. How wrong was I there?

As death usually is in real life. It was realistic, if it wasn't heroic and meaningful.

I might just take that bet. This series has been anything but predictable.

I wouldn't stay at the ranch, I'd feel much safer in my own smaller family group, however, in this world, larger groups are safer, until they come across even larger groups, lead by mentally unstable leaders.

My only criticism would be that the people are sometimes a little stupid. When Strand opened the balcony patio door, I knew the woman would jump. When Nick was handed the gun, I knew he would turn it on Troy. I thought those things were a little obvious and yet they were still surprised by them.

I don't watch shows like Fear the Walking Dead to be treated to a slice of "real life." A more likely explanation is lazy writing. Maybe they were miffed because Curtis landed a better gig. Now, there's a little real life for you.
