When do you think we'll see the next ASoIaF book & when will the series finish.

I saw this post from back in 2008, predicting a very optimistic 2018 finish to the ASoIaF series (lol).

You're aging George, please don't do a Jordan.

What I think is happening is this, george has about 3 other books he wants to write, while at the same time he wants to wrap them all up in the magic number of 7, so his compromise...

1. Write books that are as big as 2 or 3 books,
2. Pretend you've only wrote one book,
3. Release them together but sell them in volumes; like the uk versions of ASoS and ADoD.

My predictions:
-We see Winds of Winter released late 2018,
-Meanwhile A Dream of Spring remains a dream, because George's lifespan runs out in 2022.

I am done making predictions for the release of this series. A long time ago I estimated it to be Spring 2017 and I thought I was being conservative in my estimation, pessimistic even. Boy, oh boy was I wrong!

There is a 205 page thread which covers theverything question you ask, and more. Contributing to that head would be more useful than starting a new one.

After 6 years of waiting, it's going to be pretty tough to say anything new unless you find breaking news and get it posted first.

I find it to be in poor taste to predict an author's death.

Hopefully, a mod will merge or delete this new thread

From what I have read here and other places he is bored with this series, so my prediction is never. With HBO and all, does he need to?

so what do you all think about this leak that maybe revealed the possible release date for winds of winter?

Fire and Blood Vol 1 2018
Winds of Winter 2019
Fire and Blood Vol 2 2020
A Dream of Spring...well it is nice to dream.

It should be clear by now to even the most optimistic fans that GRRM has come to hate writing the Song of Ice and Fire books. He'll seize on any project in preference to Winds of Winter. Classic tactics of someone putting off a task he dreads.

I thought George (and Patrick Rothfuss) were to busy listening to people tell them what amazing, creative, geniuses they are (and going to conventions for more butt kissing) to actually write books.

I am convinced at this point that it won't ever be finished. Honestly I don't know if I even care anymore. The last 2 books have been disappointments. The show actually fixed a lot of things that were wrong with them with my only gripe being how they handled Dorne's storyline. That seemed foolish. I really believe the only reason why Arianne Martell was never in the show was because they couldn't find a woman beautiful enough to play her who could actually act.

I see there's going to be a "GRRMarillion" book out later this year. If he's been working on that rather than WoW, I take it to mean he's fallen completely out of love with the series (and I can completely understand that, given that someone's finished the story for him). He might just struggle to the end of WoW, but we'll see nothing beyond it.

I think that GRRM feels that Blood and Fire is a necessary installment i.e. that there are details relevant which we didn't know before. I couldn't disagree more on the notion that the TV show is finishing the story, it's nothing more than fan fiction now.

According to rumour, it's the televised fan fic that George has fallen out of love with, not HIS story...

Regardless if he think's that it is fanfiction or not, the vast majority of people will find out the ending of the series from the TV series and that is a shame. One of the great literary series of our times will find it's ending not on print but in celluloid.
